Let’s Organize a Bathroom

This time of year, I’m feeling hopeful. Spring is around the corner and the new year has just begun. There has been an influx of clutter from the holidays, and it feels like a good time to edit some items that are no longer serving their purpose. I love starting off a decluttering project with areas that are not sentimental. Come along with me as I tackle a bathroom!

Tip # 1 Remove every item from the room

Find a clear surface, such as a kitchen countertop to place every item from the bathroom. Empty every shelf, cabinet, tub and shower until you’ve got an empty bathroom.

Tip # 2 Clean

It’s essential to now give the entire room a deep cleaning. If you have a shower curtain, it’s a great time to replace the old liner. Make sure to vacuum and wipe inside the cabinets! How about a fresh new candle for this room?

Tip # 3 Edit and Categorize

Back to the kitchen where we plopped everything down…The first thing to do is look for actual garbage and recycling. Then, go through your old jewelry, hair products, makeup, and hair things. Ask yourself if it’s useful or beautiful, and if not, let it go. If you feel guilty parting with half-used products that you no longer use, try placing them in a dark garbage bag and don’t look back. It’s a trick that really helps! Categorize your keepers in piles, labeling them with sticky notes. These are some categories that I find helpful for bathroom items: First Aid, Travel, Skin, Eyes, Nails, Hair, Soap, Dental, Sunscreen and Shaving. If young children are in your home, I don’t recommend keeping medication in the bathroom. My favorite solution is to keep it up high in that useless old cabinet over the fridge.

Tip # 4 Containers containers containers (As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases)

I recommend the 12"D x 7.5"W x 4.4"H clear stackable storage drawers here for storing almost everything, but especially items for bathroom cabinets and the over-fridge cabinet for the medication. These fit perfectly and can hold a myriad of personal care items. They can stack up high so you’re not wasting precious space. I use them for everything with a few exceptions. For cleaning products, I prefer to use an open tote or caddy such as these. For hair appliances and brushes, I find that tall plastic baskets work best, and for tooth brushes and everyday essentials, I like to use the vanity drawers with divider trays like these. If your drawers allow, clear cube shaped totes with handles like these work well for larger things like bath toys. One of the organizing ideas I’ve come to love for bathrooms is re-bottling the shower products. I recommend getting plain matching bottles like these for each of the following: shampoo, conditioner, body wash and face wash. This also allows you to purchase your products in bulk, saving money and caring for the planet.

Tip #5 Labels

Now, with all of these lovely containers, it’s time to clearly label everything. This is not only useful, but it’s a fun way to customize your space. I’ve invested in a Cricut machine so I can create beautiful custom labels in any color or font. It’s so satisfying to look over a neat, organized space like this.
